LWV Kitsap to host virtual primary debates for local races

The League of Women Voters of Kitsap will once again host a series of virtual debates covering races across the 23rd Legislative District, along with the race for County Commissioner District 2.

The voter advocacy organization, one of 21 in Washington, has regularly conducted forums regarding Kitsap’s local races. The forums include questions submitted by voters on its Candidate Forum page, and the sessions are typically recorded for those unable to attend the live debate.

The 2024 primary series begins July 9 with the first of two separate debates for positions 1 and 2 for the 23rd District state representatives. Tiffany Attrill, Kurt Robertson, and Tarra Simmons are the candidates for Position 1; and Greg Nance, John Gibbons, Jamie Miles and Brynn Felix are the candidates for Position 2.

The top two in all races advance to the general election in November.

The first debate begins July 9 at 6:30 p.m. The other will be July 11 at the same time.

Candidates for the county commission will debate July 16 at 6:30 p.m. Candidates include Jeff Coughlin, Sean Murphy, Matt Macklin, Oran Root, Stacey (Spencer) Smith and Paul Nuchims.

A debate will also be held in the race for state senator in the 23rd District. Lance Byrd, Drew Hansen and Ace Haynes are the candidates, which goes live at 6:30 p.m. July 18.

Links and Zoom information for the debates are available on the league website.
