EDITOR’S NOTE: Pageant officials verified a change in the rules beginning this year regarding age: Director Kari McKinsey said contestants who were turning 15 within the year of their reign were now eligible to particpate, up to age 19. Little Miss Viking Fest also changed its requirements; contestants enrolled in second through fifth grade are now eligible. She said the website will be updated soon.
Maelena Mattson, 14, a freshman at Kingston High School, was crowned Miss Viking Fest at the 13th annual pageant April 21, in the North Kitsap Auditorium.
The theme of the pageant was “Swingin’ Into the ’50s.”
The new Miss Viking Fest is involved in cheerleading and drill team at school, and is also involved in hydroplane racing; her dad is a crew chief.
She was sponsored by Mattson Construction, Hare & Hounds, Moore’s Works, and Newton Construction Inc. She is the daughter of Tammy and Matt Mattson of Poulsbo.
She was one of six contestants for the title.
Anna Hall and Gabrielle Thetford, sophomores at North Kitsap High School, were crowned Viking Fest princesses.
Tatyana Morgan-Reyes, 10, a fifth-grader at Vinland Elementary, was crowned Little Miss Viking Fest. She was one of seven contestants.
Alayna Goulet, a fourth-grader at Breidablik Elementary, and Kayla Baker, a first-grader at Suquamish Elementary, were crowned Little Miss Viking Fest princesses.
