OLYMPIA — The Senate Majority Coalition Caucus announced the election of Sen. Jan Angel (R-Port Orchard) as caucus vice chair after her first year in the Senate.
Members of the Majority Coalition Caucus voted Angel into the leadership role as a key link between committee chairs and Senate leadership.
“I’m excited to get to work building on the bipartisan success we achieved as a caucus last year,” said Angel. “I have all the right tools to be a leader in this role with my previous experience leading committees and developing employees as a small-business owner and I am very grateful for the confidence of my Senate colleagues.”
As caucus vice chair, Angel will coordinate committee activities as liaison between Senate leadership and committee chairs.
It includes assisting Caucus Chair Sen. Linda Evans Parlette (R-Wenatchee) with employment and dismissal of caucus staff as well as the Facilities and Operations Committee while also chairing caucus meetings in her absence.
Angel has chaired committees at the local, state, regional, and national level while adding years of experience with management and employee development in the private sector.
“I am very pleased with the addition of Sen. Angel to our leadership team and know she will play a strong role in fostering a positive, problem-solving approach to our work in the upcoming legislative session,” said Parlette.
Majority Coalition Caucus members elected Sen. Mark Schoesler (R-Ritzville) as Senate Majority Leader. Schoesler appointed Angel to serve on the Senate’s Committee on Committees which meets Monday to name committee chairs and members.
Angel will serve a two-year legislative term as caucus vice chair and Committee on Committees member.
This year in the Senate, Angel served as co-chair of the Financial Institutions, Housing and Insurance Committee and vice chair of the Trade and Economic Development Committee.
Angel previously served as ranking member in committee for each of her five years in the House.
