Majority of positions on Poulsbo City Council, North Kitsap School Board on 2015 ballot

But wait, you say — we just finished a big election and, heck, it’s only New Year’s Day. Well, the 2015 election season is closer than you might think.

POULSBO — A majority of positions on the Poulsbo City Council and North Kitsap School Board will be on the 2015 general election ballot.

Depending on where they live, North Kitsap residents will also vote for commissioners in two fire protection districts, five port districts, and a park district.

But wait, you say — we just finished a big election and, heck, it’s only New Year’s Day. Well, the 2015 election season is closer than you might think.

By the time you’ve finished counting the Easter eggs in your basket (13 weeks from now), potential candidates will be narrowing down their stands on issues: How each would be a responsible steward of your tax dollars, and how each would improve city services or the city landscape, or local education, fire protection, port services, or recreation.

Candidate filing week opens on May 11. Voting in the Aug. 4 primary begins July 17. The general election is Nov. 3.

Here’s what you have to look forward to.

Poulsbo City Council
Four-year terms are expiring for council members from Position 1, currently occupied by Linda Berry-Maraist, who has resigned effective Jan. 21; Position 2, Connie Lord, a former Winslow city clerk who has served on the council since 2004; Position 3, Gary Nystul, a former Kalispell, Montana city council member who is also Bremerton’s city auditor; and Position 4, Jeff McGinty, at 23 years the longest-serving council member in city history and Poulsbo’s mayor pro tem.

North Kitsap School Board
Four-year terms are expiring for school board directors from District 2, Bruce Christen, who was appointed to the position in November after Dan Weedin resigned; District 4, Scott Henden; and District 5, Bill Webb.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue
Six-year terms are expiring for commissioners from Position 1, Wilson (Will) Stewart, elected to his first term in 1995; and Position 4, Gillian A. Gregory, a commissioner since 1994.

Kitsap County Fire Protection District 18, aka Poulsbo Fire Department
A six-year term is expiring for Position 1, occupied by James A. Ingalls, a member of the commission for 13 years.

Port commissioners also serve six-year terms. Here’s who’s on the ballot in November 2015.

Eglon Port Commission District 3, occupied by C. Joyce McClain, a member of the commission since 2005.

Indianola Port Commission District 2, occupied by Eric Cookson, who was appointed in August 2013.

Keyport Port Commission Position 3, occupied by John F. Melrose, first elected in 1999.

Kingston Port Commission District 2, occupied by Peter F. DeBoer, first elected in 2003.

Poulsbo Port Commission Position 2, occupied by Mark DeSalvo, who was elected in 2013 to complete an unexpired term.

Voters in the Village Green Metropolitan Park District in Kingston will vote for two park district commissioners. Six-year terms are expiring for commissioners from Position 1, Bobbie Moore; and Position 4, Patrick Pearson.
