A 27-year-old East Bremerton man was arrested for false reporting after he lied about someone being robbed at gunpoint July 24. He was also arrested for possession of marijuana.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery in progress in the parking lot of Gandhi’s Indian Cuisine Restaurant and Lounge in Silverdale at about 2:15 a.m. after the 27-year-old called 9-1-1 to report that three men were robbing another man at gun point.

Deputies attempted to secure the area and locate the offenders as well as the reporting person since he appeared to be providing live updates at the scene. Eventually the 27-year-old hung up and did not answer phone calls from the dispatcher or deputies.

Earlier that evening, the 27-year-old had entered the lounge with a 20-year-old friend but the 20-year-old was asked to leave since he was underage.

The 20-year-old waited in the parking lot and the 27-year-old went outside where he got into an argument with another man. The man was punched in the face by a drunk female friend as he helped her get into a vehicle. The 27-year-old witnessed this and punched the man, then ran away from the lot.

Employees were surprised when law enforcement showed up because they didn’t think there were any more problems since the 27-year-old had left. After deputies spoke with other people in the parking lot, it was clear that what had been reported about a robbery at gun point was not true and it was suspected that the 27-year-old made the call.

The 27-year-old waslaster  found walking east in the 1600 block of Bucklin Hill Road. He told the deputy that he called 9-1-1 because he was “truly scared” to have witnessed a woman get beat up by a man. He added that he confronted the man but was chased away from the parking lot. His statements were not consistent with other witnesses, including his 20-year-old friend. A cellphone was found in the 27-year-old’s pocket and was placed into evidence along with a small bag with a green leafy product. When the officer dialed the number which originally called 9-1-1, the phone which was found on the 27-year-old rang. He was arrested and booked into the county jail for false reporting and the possession of marijuana.
