The man reportedly told firefighters he had been in the ravine for four-and-a-half hours after falling in while walking his dog. He had lost his shoes and glasses and had been unable to climb out on his own.

His roommate had called 911 after locating him earlier that evening.

The man was pulled from the ravine using rescue ropes and a Stokes basket. He was then transported to Harrison Medical Center for possible hypothermia.

The dog, a small white terrier, was rescued by firefighters who ensured it was in good health before sending it home with the man’s roommate, said Ileana LiMarzi at CKFR.

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue reminded members of the public, tell someone when you go for a walk or hike. Let them know where you’re going and how long you’ll be gone, and carry a cell phone in case of emergencies.
