KEYPORT — A 42-year-old man suspected of drilling through a wall to spy on his female neighbor said Saturday he did so because he heard yelling and talking next door and was curious.
A Kitsap County sheriff’s deputy was called Aug. 5 by the female tenant, 26, who discovered the hole behind a mirror while preparing the apartment to move out, according to reports.
The deputy inspected the studio apartment on the 1900 block of NE Fir Street Wednesday and saw the hole, drilled behind a mirror. The paint on the back of the mirror had been scraped off.
The deputy contacted the 31-year-old woman who rented the space next to the apartment. She told the deputy her boyfriend, the 42-year-old, used the space to restore cars. The deputy noted in the report the 31-year-old woman was nine months pregnant with the suspect’s child.
While searching the property, the deputy found the hole, and a video camera pointed toward the hole.
When confronted by a deputy, the man denied he intended to use the view of his neighbor for sexual gratification, but only because he heard noises, “Just so I could see what was going on,” according to the report.
The man was booked into the Kitsap County jail for investigation of residential burglary and voyeurism.
