The day a 20-year-old man received a 14-month prison sentence for the vehicular deaths of two teenage girls, he was charged with a misdemeanor on June 23 in Kitsap County District Court.

Robert Allen Rundquist Jr, of Port Orchard was cited May 9 by a Kitsap County sheriff’s deputy for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Rundquist was charged Dec. 17 with vehicular homicide in the deaths of Rebekah Faye Barrett, 18, of South Kitsap, and Shanaia Rose Bennett, 17, of Gig Harbor. Both died in a racing crash on Baby Doll Road on Dec. 16.

On May 12, Rundquist pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of felony hit and run. He was sentenced June 23 by Judge Leila Mills.

According to court documents, a sheriff’s deputy were called to the Clearwater Casino in Saquamish in response to a minor in possession of alcohol. When the deputy arrived, a Suquamish police officer and emergency medical personnel were treating an 18-year-old female, who was later transported to a local hospital. The Suquamish police officer attempted to speak with the woman, but she was not responsive.

Court papers stated Rundquist was held by casino security for a minor in possession of alcohol and the deputy reported the man smelled of alcohol, his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot. During an interview, Rundquist told the deputy he had three drinks at a friend’s home in Port Orchard before coming to the casino and was unaware how much the 18-year-old female drank. The deputy allowed Rundquist to leave the casino with friends.

Video surveillance showed a person moving a bottle of whiskey from the passenger side of a vehicle to the trunk. Another person gave the bottle of whiskey voluntarily to the police officer. The police officer stated he saw the 18-year-old female being helped out of the casino by another female, and said she appeared to be intoxicated and vomiting, according to court records.
