A man in his 60’s died in a single car crash in Brownsville Sunday night around dusk.

The man was reportedly driving south on Brownsville Highway. After coming out of a curve the man’s Ford Explorer drove through the gravel shoulder and into the drainage ditch.

The vehicle flipped, overturning several times, and came to a stop just north of Ogle Road NE.

First responders found the man in the driver’s seat wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dog, which was in the car at the time of the crash, was reportedly found in the vehicle by a by-stander and transported to an area animal hospital. The animal’s status is unknown at this time.

Kitsap sheriffs said they are investigating the cause of the crash to determine if excessive speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Sheriffs have not released the man’s name, as they are still attempting to notify next of kin.

UPDATE (9:41 a.m.): The dog that was in the car at the time of the incident is okay, according to Animal Control.

Following the incident animal control officers took the dog to VCA Olympic Animal Hospital in Silverdale where it was treated for a possible concussion and minor road rash.

Animal Control Officer Chase Connolly said the dog did not have any significant injuries and was set to be picked up by next of kin sometime soon.
