Man struck by car, dies on State Route 305 near Seminole Lane

A man died Tuesday night after he was struck by a car on State Route 305 near Seminole Road. Matthew G. Lowen, 30, of Port Angeles was found unconscious in the middle of the highway about 9:15 p.m. March 27, according to Washington State Patrol.

Matthew G. Lowen, 30, of Port Angeles was found unconscious in the middle of the highway about 9:15 p.m. March 27, according to Washington State Patrol. Lowen was reportedly walking on the center skip line on 305 and walked into the southbound lane, where he was struck by a Honda CRV. The Bainbridge Island driver was not cited in the incident.

According to Washington State Patrol, Lowen is believed to have been intoxicated.

The scene was dark and rainy. When Poulsbo Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene, Lowen was lying unconscious in the middle of the highway. Crews radioed for a possible airlift transport to Harborview Medical Center’s trauma unit.

“Firefighters worked on the patient for some time, but later pronounced him dead on the scene,” Poulsbo Fire spokeswoman Jody Matson reported. “Airlift was cancelled…The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident.”

Both directions of traffic were blocked at the scene while State Patrol investigated. All lanes were open to traffic Wednesday at 12:02 a.m., Washington State Patrol reported.
