Port Orchard Mayor Lary Coppola is considering hosting town hall-type meetings to discuss concerns and answer questions for the public.

“Do you think this is a good idea? Would you come, and how often?” wrote Coppola on his Facebook page last weekend.

Ten of the mayor’s “fans” liked the idea, and 12 left comments.

The majority of commenters supported the proposal.

“What an awesome idea!” wrote Fae Smith from Olalla. “See why you are the mayor? Yes, I would come.”

Others were less enthusiastic in their responses.

“I’m kinda up in the air about it,” wrote Patrick McAllister, who owns Port Orchard’s Guardian Lawn Maintenance. “Everyone needs more time with the family, both of you also need it too, with the grandson and all. I think the weekends should be a relaxing and free time. Don’t let the job work you.”

However, Coppola doesn’t always maintain a Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule because of his publishing, business and other civic activities, wrote Doña Keating.

“My only concern,” she wrote, “and it’s more of a ‘what if’ than a worry, is if you’ll actually be regularly available on a specific Saturday given your activities.”

Several other commenters shared their schedules.

“A Saturday morning, on a regular basis, would be good,” wrote South Kitsap School Board President Kathryn Simpson. “Say the second Saturday of each month, for example.”

Others favored meeting on a weeknight.

“I would prefer a weeknight, but I would imagine there are many folks who could make a Saturday maybe easier than during the week,” wrote Teresa Osinski. “It’s always tough to find that ‘perfect” answer.’ Nice of you to contemplate it. I hope it works out.”
