The public is invited to commemorate Memorial Day by attending a ceremony on the fantail of the historic destroyer USS Turner Joy.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, the event will feature remarks from Rear Adm. Dietrich Kuhlmann III, commander of Submarine Group 9, as well as the playing of “Taps” and the annual laying of the memorial wreath to remember our fallen.

The event is sponsored by the Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Council of the U.S. Navy League, and the council’s President, Tim Katona, will serve as the master of ceremonies.

The USS TURNER JOY is located on the downtown Bremerton waterfront. Parking is available at the Kitsap Conference Center near the Bremerton Ferry Terminal.

Coffee and donuts will be provided following the ceremony on board the ship in the crew’s mess.
