245 people attended the city of Poulsbo’s 2024 Fancy Family Formal Feb. 17, a 9% increase over last year.
The parks and recreation department gave a presentation about the dance to the City Council at its March 13 meeting.
Of the attendees, 62% were from Poulsbo and 83% attended for the first time, city documents read. 97.1 pounds of hygiene products, diapers and non-perishable items were donated by community members to Fishline Food Bank and Comprehensive Services.
As for the dance itself, tickets provided attendees the chance to take professional photos and get instant prints. Guests also got the chance to make their own hall of fame star to take home or add to Poulsbo’s Hall of Fame, located at the parks and rec building. There was also plenty of dancing with music by DJ Joe Frank.
Before the dance, the city partnered with downtown businesses for ticket holders to receive 15% off. Families were welcomed with the red carpet rolled out and the Sons of Norway Vikings, princesses and volunteers on hand.
Staff listed many takeaways from the event and suggestions for next year, including: providing a low sensory version was successful – two-dance times next year; understanding venue layout and capacitates putting a cap on ticket sales; host on a day that is not a holiday or a three-day weekend; continue to provide ticket cost that covers all activities; and increase sponsorship and community support.
