Driving down 7th Avenue in Poulsbo, you have probably seen a sign for a new sushi restaurant, well, as of July 18, Mori Sushi & Bento is now open.
“We held a soft opening on [July 18] so as not to overwhelm our staff and the restaurant and provide great customer service to everyone that came in,” said Katie Kwon.
Kwon is a co-owner of the restaurant with her brother-in-law Mori, for which the restaurant is named.
As the name suggests, the restaurant’s primary and most popular dishes are traditional Japanese dishes of sushi and bento boxes. However, Mori also offers a range of cuisine from other Asian cultures like China and Korea.
“We wanted to provide a variety of dishes to our customers,” Kwon said.
For those not familiar with Asian cuisine, the staff at Mori Sushi & Bento recommends its bento combo, which includes teriyaki chicken and a California Roll.
A California roll is a sushi roll stuffed with crab meat, avocado and cucumber.
“I would recommend this because it is our most basic dish and a good introduction to Japanese food,” Kwon said.
Mori Sushi & Bento also pays homage to its location in Poulsbo, colloquially known as “Little Norway” by offering sushi rolls with a Norwegian twist.
“Our favorite rolls are the Viking roll, Miss Viking and the Poulsbo roll. These rolls contain salmon and barbecue salmon to accommodate the Norwegian culture and give customers some familiar food to choose from,” said Kwon.
Poulsbo’s Mayor Becky Erickson raved about the restaurant in a Facebook post.
“So pleased we have another great choice for excellent food in Poulsbo,” Erickson said.
