POULSBO — A motorcyclist was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton after his motorcycle was rear-ended on Bond and Pugh roads at about 4:30 p.m. Jan. 5.

Steve Kennedy, the driver of an A&E service truck, said the motorcyclist was headed from the direction of Poulsbo and attempted to slow down to allow the service truck to make a left turn onto Pugh Road when the motorcycle was allegedly struck from behind by a Ford Focus. The impact threw the motorcyclist off of his bike; he landed in bushes approximately 20 feet up the road, Kennedy said.

“I’m a little shaken up,” Kennedy said. “I took a pretty good hit from the bike … it’s a good thing the driver wasn’t still on the bike when he hit me. Fortunately, he’s still alive. He was very lucky.”

The young female driver of the Ford Focus declined comment, but was visibly upset and she stood with family at the scene.

Kennedy said the motorcyclist was transported “fairly quickly.” Kennedy said he “called 9-1-1 immediately and got an ambulance coming.”

Of the driver of the Ford Focus, Kennedy said, “I can imagine she would be very upset.”

Traffic was backed up for over an hour while Gateway Towing cleared the scene and removed the motorcycle.

Nick Lull of Washington State Patrol said, “All I know is the motorcycle was rear-ended but I believe [the motorcyclist] is in stable condition.”

The motorcycle driver was not airlifted.

Kennedy concluded, “I’ve been driving truck all over this county and have never been involved in an accident until now.”

Elsewhere, Jefferson Point Road in Kingston was closed at the same time because of a jack-knifed semi, and another vehicle collision was reported at Highway 305 and Liberty Road.
