Mountain View Middle School was locked down for several hours today after a student informed a bus driver there was a bomb.

The incident occurred as the school was letting out.

Mountain View co-principal Jerry Willson said that half of the students were at an assembly while the other half was already on the bus when the school got a call about the situation.

“A student on a previous run, which would have been a high school run, made a comment – in jest, I suppose, or maybe anger” told a bus driver that there was a bomb on the bus.

The school went into lockdown mode, rerouting the buses back to Holman Avenue and led back into the school while the students in the assembly were moved into their classrooms.

The Bremerton Police Department and the Washington State Patrol responded to the incident, with a WSP bomb squad and a K-9 unit searching the bus, but didn’t find anything.

A member of the BPD said the juvenile, a male whose name is being withheld, was located and interviewed, but said it was a “joke.”

He is currently being held in Kitsap Juvenile Detention Facilities for making bomb threats.

The last of the students were sent off on the bus by 5 p.m.
