INDIANOLA — Mystery. Mayhem. Murder.

It’s all part of a good night’s fun.

For the second year in a row, the North Kitsap Options’ parents will put on a fund-raising performance for the program, which serves kids in the North Kitsap School District with a creative, parents-based education.

Last year, parents performed “Marriage Can Be Murder.”

This year, the theme continues with “Murder Goes to the Highest Bidder,” a play that will be performed at 6:30 p.m. March 15 and 4 p.m. March 16 at the Indianola Clubhouse.

The play is partially set during an auction — an event in which theater-goers can participate — that quickly turns into a murder plot. Don’t think that it gets too grim, warned Claudia Mitchell, who is helping coordinate the performance.

“It’s funny. Wacky. Crazy,” Mitchell said. “It’s got interesting characters.”

The six characters include an auctioneer (played by Paul Bryan), a mysterious Russian (Stark Ravenholt), a Turkish military officer (Steve Rusk), a suspicious police officer (Christine Josok), an actress/singer (Rose Ridel), and an African anthropologist (Holly Delphinidae) who, for at least one portion of the play, has a monkey roped around her neck. (The monkey’s not real).

A four-course meal, prepared in part by the Options culinary-arts program, will be served and the play will be followed by a silent auction — a real one — in which the audience can participate.

Mitchell said the idea from last year’s event sprang from kids’ creativity that parents wanted to share.

“The Options students are all into the dramatic arts and the parents enjoy watching them,” Mitchell said. “A lot (of parents) said, ‘I wish I could be on stage.’ So we got them together.”
