Museum exhibit celebrating Black History Month

The exhibit will document important dates in African American History (1552-1863) and Racial Laws (1844-1959)

BREMERTON — The Kitsap County History Museum will open a new exhibit, “Uneasy Road: From Slavery to Freedom” on Friday, Feb. 1 to celebrate Black History Month and commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The exhibit will run through March 30.

The exhibit will document important dates in African American History (1552-1863) and Racial Laws (1844-1959). Featured will be Kitsap County individuals: Nathaniel Sargent, who became Seabeck’s Justice of the Peace; Jane Ruley, first teacher of Sheridan School #22 and one of Bremerton’s early pioneers, Charles Austin.

The museum is located at 280 Fourth St.
