Nature photographers of all ages and skill levels are welcomed to participate in a nature photo contest, “Shoot Wild Kitsap,” to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Stillwaters Environmental Center in Kingston.
This summertime contest, which ends Sept. 5, will give you ample excuse to take yourself and your camera outside — to the woods, the beach, the mountains, or the field behind your house. Show us what you see in nature.
Contest categories will include various ages and all skill levels. Prizes will be awarded at a celebration and exhibition on Oct. 3.
To help get photographers in the mood, Stillwaters is hosting a field-based workshop for all photographers at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, at Stillwaters.
The workshop will be lead by William Thompson, Greg MacDonald, Kurt Smith and Harley Soltes — all nationally renowned photographers who live in Kitsap and are Stillwaters naturalists.
Cost is a suggested donation of $35-$70. Attendees should wear trail- and weather-appropriate clothing and also bring a bag lunch to be eaten in the field.
Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. To register, call (360) 297-2876.
Photographers and editors Tom Menzel, Jim Laser and Isabel Gate will review selected photos at a photography critique workshop from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Kingston Firehouse Theater. Cost is a suggested donation of $35-$70.
Both workshops can be attended for a suggested donation of $50-$100.
Stillwaters is joined in this venture by The North Kitsap Herald, Whisper, S & J Graphics, Olympic Property Group, the Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest and photographers William Thompson, Greg MacDonald, Jim Laser, Isabel Gates, Kurt Smith and Harley Soltes.
