SILVERDALE — Navy personnel will be conducting a force protection exercise at Naval Base Kitsap at Bangor and Keyport Oct. 22-23 that is designed to exercise installation capabilities in responding to emergencies on and near Navy bases.

This exercise will include the use of training smoke and simulation of explosives. It is possible that residents may see smoke or hear small explosions. The simulations are part of the training exercise and pose no risk.

This regularly scheduled exercise is not in response to any specific threat. It is Navy policy not to discuss the specifics of Force Protection; therefore, the details of the exercise will not be released.

The Navy routinely conducts this type of security and other emergency response exercises to ensure readiness and improve coordination, communication and collaboration with other federal, state, and local government agencies during emergency situations.
