BANGOR – Staff members of the Navy Lodge at Naval Base Kitsap – Bangor accepted the 2014 Overall Edward E. Carlson Award for superior performance during a ceremony on June 12.
The Carlson award is presented each year to the Navy Lodge that demonstrated superior performance during the year in operations, associate satisfaction, leadership, and guest service. This is the fifth time the Navy Lodge has been presented the Carlson Award and the first time it has won the Overall category. The previous four awards recognized the Navy Lodge as the best in the medium-sized category.
“The staff at the Navy Lodge has always been very professional and of the highest caliber. It is great to see them rewarded for all the hard work they put in to making everyone’s stay great,” said Capt. Thomas Zwolfer, Commanding Officer of Naval Base Kitsap. “It’s an incredible accomplishment to obtain this award.”
The Navy Lodge competed against 42 other Navy Lodges both nationally and internationally. In 2014, they assisted 30,432 guests and exceeded their planned net profit by 13 percent.
The Carlson Award is named in honor of Edward E. Carlson, a former member of the Secretary of the Navy’s Exchange/Commissary Advisory Committee. Carlson’s leadership and guidance made the Navy Lodge Program the world-class hospitality service to military members that it is today.
