A security threat at Naval Base Kitsap-Keyport has been cleared as a suspicious package turned out to be a camera.
NBK – Keyport was locked down at approximately 2 p.m. after a suspicious package was found during a random vehicle inspection. The vehicle operator was taken into custody and questioned by Navy Security Forces.
The lockdown lasted a few hours, a Navy news release says.
Security forces secured the gate and established a barrier around the area. Military dogs were on scene conducting a sweep of the vehicle and surrounding area, the release states.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11 personnel arrived and determined the objects to be non-threatening.
Security Forces and EOD personnel determined through their interview with the subject, along with the physical inspection, the objects were camera components with wires and batteries that appeared to be possible Improvised Explosive Device components.
