New assistant superintendent for Public Works

Public Works Superintendent Mike Lund has a new right arm. Well, a new, old right arm might be more correct.

And his name is Keith Svarthumle.

In making the request to hire Svarthumle, Lund told the council out that the Public Works Department has 25 employees engaged in water, waste management, road, and sewer projects all over the city.

Svarthumle, who was one of Lund’s foremen and a long-time PW employee, had been unofficially serving as his assistant, Lund told council members, and he wanted to make it official.

The council agreed whole- heartedly.

The public should applaud, too. For 13 years, Svarthumle has been the “temporary” water supervisor, making sure city water is pure and safe to drink.
