‘New Blues Brothers’ kick off Port Orchard Marina concert series

Now that the Port Orchard Marina features a park nearby to keep the kids entertained, it looks like the music under the gazebo for Kitsap County’s Concerts by the Bay will be — almost — all about the adults this summer. Tomorrow night, the popular series launches its 2008 schedule with The New Blues Brothers, who describe themselves as “nine of the best musicians ... with more than 200 years of entertaining experience” between them.

Now that the Port Orchard Marina features a park nearby to keep the kids entertained, it looks like the music under the gazebo for Kitsap County’s Concerts by the Bay will be — almost — all about the adults this summer.

Tomorrow night, the popular series launches its 2008 schedule with The New Blues Brothers, who describe themselves as “nine of the best musicians … with more than 200 years of entertaining experience” between them.

Based on the Blues Brothers band formed by Dan Akroyd and the late John Belushi, the NBB play dance hits from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

The rest

of the schedule includes:

• Jr. Cadillac, July 17: This Seattle-bas-ed band claims to have been “rocking”

for 33 years

and “showing abso-lutely no

signs of slowing down.

“Our aim is to create a party every time we got out,” said Ned Neltner, the band’s frontman. “Sweating and dancing are our reasons to exist.”

• The Voetbergs, July 24; described as a family concert band and fiddle champions.

• Soultronic, July 31: This group hails from the Seattle/Tacoma area and describes its music as “mixing up groove-oriented melodic ingredients of funk, rock and reggae … while adding a dash of soulful, pop edge.”

Their shows also feature covers of hits by Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder and Santana, along with Usher, Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake.

• The Machine, Aug. 2: This Seattle-area band claims that they not only play the “best party music,” they play music from not just one decade, but they “play it all.”

• Dana and The Changes, Aug. 14: Billed as an “Elton John tribute,” this band features Dana Osborn, who is described as a songwriter who plays the “guitar, piano, bass, drums and saxophone in addition to his great vocals.”
