Nearly 600 dogs and cats spayed or neutered on Kitsap Spay Day
Nearly 600 dogs and cats were spayed or neutered on Feb. 24 during the first-ever Kitsap Spay Day.
The Kitsap Spay & Neuter Council, which is made up of more than 20 volunteers, organized the event. Fourteen local veterinary hospitals as well as the Kitsap Humane Society and Linda Dennis with Cats Altering to Save took part in Kitsap Spay Day.
The Kitsap Spay & Neuter Council said some veterinarians extended the discount for spay and neuter surgeries throughout the entire month of February, while others offered up to 20 percent off of regular prices Feb. 24.

Applications available for Armed Forces Day Parade
Parade applications are now being accepted for the 61st Annual American Financial Solutions Armed Forces Day Parade on Saturday, May 16 at 10 a.m. in downtown Bremerton.
The event is the nation’s largest and longest-running Armed Forces Day Parade and regularly attracts crowds of 20,000 to 30,000 people.
There are several judged categories including:
Military Bands, Color Guards and other Military Units
Floats and Towed Displays
Veterans’ Units
High School Bands, Drill Teams, Flag Corps and Drum Majors (various size high schools and junior high schools)
JROTC/Sea Cadet Units
Youth Organizations
Civilian Vehicle Units
Motorcycle Units
Equestrian Units
Vintage Military Vehicles
Vintage Agricultural Equipment
Additionally, awards are given to the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice entries.
Deadline for applications is April 24, however, the parade is limited to 150 entries and usually fills up before the deadline. The entry fee for commercial units is $150. There is no charge for non-profit and government entries.

Kitsap Peninsula Visitor & Convention Bureau relocates to Silverdale
The Kitsap Peninsula Visitor & Convention Bureau is now located in Silverdale.
The move from Port Gamble, according to the bureau, will provide the organization with a more central location and will save on overhead expenses. Its new address is 9481 Silverdale Way NW, Suite 203A, Silverdale, WA 98383.
