NK school board member resigns to focus on family

Webster-Martinson was first Native American elected outside of tribal government in Kitsap

North Kitsap school board member Cindy Webster-Martinson will be resigning Sept. 1 to focus on her family, the district announced in a news release.

Since 2013, she has served as a legislative representative, liaison to both the Port Gamble S’Klallam and Suquamish tribes, and as a past president. She was also the first Native American elected to public office outside of tribal government in Kitsap County.

“The board thanks Cindy Webster-Martinson for her dedication to serving North Kitsap students, staff, families and the community over the past nine years,” the release states. “The board and North Kitsap School District wish her all the best as she takes much-needed time to focus on her family.”

NKSD is seeking a replacement for the director 5 position. To apply, complete the application that explains why you want to serve on the board and include a biographical summary. Timeline

  • Applications are due by Sept. 2.
  • The board will review submitted materials on Sept. 8. If necessary, the board will narrow the pool to five people who will be interviewed.
  • Public interviews will be held Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. at the district office, 18360 Caldart Ave. NE. A list of questions will be provided to the candidates prior to the interviews.
  • The board will appoint the new board member Sept. 22. The new board member will take office Oct. 13 and serve the balance of the term to December 2023.
