NK track coach, football assistant dies

He was also a longtime teacher in the school district

North Kitsap High School track coach and football defensive coordinator Dave Snyder has died.

He was also a teacher for many years in the school district, including most recently at NKHS where he taught history.

News shared on multiple social media pages, including the NK Vikings Soccer Facebook page, says: “Devastating news this morning of the passing of Dave Snyder. What an icon of our school and community. His impact on his students, co-workers and friends was tremendous, and he will be missed greatly.”

NK football coach Jeff Weible confirmed the news, adding the cause of his death June 17 was unknown.

“Our whole team, coaching staff and community is beyond devastated at the loss of our friend. He was a pillar in our community. Kids looked up to him. He is highly respected and irreplaceable. We miss him more than words can say,” Weible said in a statement.

NK’s football program had been scheduled to participate in the inaugural Battle of the Bay 7-on-7 high school tournament June 22 hosted by Bainbridge High School. Weible confirmed that will no longer be the case.
