NKSD approves $131 million budget heading into new school year

Enrollment projected to decline over next 4 years

The North Kitsap School District board of directors approved the 2024-25 budget at its Aug. 22 meeting, which comes out to just over $131 million between four different funds.

The majority will go toward the general fund at about $111.56 million, followed by $17 million for capital projects, $1.5 million for transportation and just over $1 million for Associated Student Body.

Enrollment estimates this year are down 44 full-time students from last year, documents read. Impact Aid continues to decline; the district will receive 85% of the 2022-23 allocation.

As far as the four-year outlook, enrollment is projected to decline over that time, per documents. General fund revenue is projected to increase approximately 3% annually, and expenditures will increase about 2.5% per year. To keep increases to 2.5% there will need to be reductions. NKSD will continue to achieve the board policy established 5%-7% minimum fund balance.
