BREMERTON — Candidate leads in all races remained unchanged after late ballot counts Aug. 3, according to updated results posted Aug. 3 by the Kitsap County Elections Office.
The next update is expected by 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7, which means the Elections Department is waiting for any last ballots mailed on Election Day to trickle in and any disputed ballots to be resolved. The latter are ballots that were not signed, or had a signature that didn’t match the one on file.
The closest race countywide is in Bremerton City Council District 3. Former City Council member Adam C. Brockus held on to his slight lead over educator Deborah McDaniel for a spot on the general election ballot. Kevin Gorman maintained his lead with 591 votes, followed by Brockus with 339 and McDaniel with 323 — a difference between the latter of 1.3 percent.
Elections officials are waiting for 19 ballots in District 3 to be resolved and for any mailed ballots to be received. Should the vote difference betwen Brockus and McDaniel narrow to one half of 1 percent, an automatic recount would be triggered, Elections Supervisor Kyle Joyce said. Automatic recounts are paid for by the county. A recount requested by a candidate is paid for by the candidate.
The election will be certified on Aug. 15, Joyce said.
The voter turnout in the primary election was 25.9 percent, the elections office reported. Here are the results countywide as of Aug. 3. Candidates who are moving on to the Nov. 7 general election are indicated by an asterisk.
