BREMERTON — The Kitsap History Museum in Bremerton is holding a scavenger hunt for April Fool’s Day.

From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, visitors to the museum can wander through galleries and find what doesn’t belong.

Dean Tingey, executive director of the museum, said that the scavenger hunt was Curator Jeanine Greco’s idea, in an effort to expand appeal to younger audiences.

“What she’s looking for is trying to expand our family outreach and our youth outreach,” Tingey said. “It’s going to be designed so that it’s something people of all ages can do and can enjoy.”

Tingey said the museum will be “taking items that, historically, don’t fit in the context of specific exhibits and intermixing those items among those exhibits.” As an example, Tingey mentioned putting an iPhone in the display of a WWII Bremerton Shipyard office.

Casey Alop, an employee at the museum, said, “I think it really brings the community together, that they’re all going to be doing something they can share.”

Alop said that an after-school group will be going to the museum to participate, and it’s a good event for families to do with children, as well.

Visitors will receive a scavenger tally sheet to write down what they find that doesn’t belong; once visitors think they’ve found everything, they can bring their sheets to the front desk and be entered into a drawing for some great prizes. Entries must be complete and turned in by 7 p.m. April 1; prizes will be given from a drawing starting at 7:15 p.m.

Prizes were donated by Bremerton Letterpress Co., F.R.O.G. Soap, ISH Vintage Clothing and Costume, Liberty Bay Books and Purpose Boutique.

Admission is free for the day; as part of the First Friday celebrations there will be some refreshments offered starting around 5 p.m. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 280 Fourth Street in downtown Bremerton.
