North Kitsap Fire & Rescue: say no to purchasing fireworks

Leave fireworks to the professionals and see Kingston’s Fourth of July Parade in style! Once again this year, we’re doing everything we can to ensure a safe and comfortable summer holiday for everyone. Personal fireworks are a leading cause of fires during that time, causing countless injuries to children and adults. Join with us by pledging to refrain from purchasing or using fireworks at home, and our firefighters will donate $5 of their own money to the fund that supports the public fireworks display in Kingston. One lucky family will even win two seats on our flagship fire engine as it leads the parade! To partner with us on a safer holiday, fill out the form that appears here and send it to laboda@nkfr.org or to NKF&R at 26642 Miller Bay Road, Kingston, WA 98346. You can also find form at www.nkfr.org or at any of our staffed fire stations.

Life jackets at Buck Lake

We have teamed up with Kitsap Safe Kids, the Boy Scouts and Kitsap County Parks to bring the county’s first life jacket loaner kiosk to Hansville’s Buck Lake Park. Because drowning is the second leading cause of injury deaths for children in Washington state, we are doing what we can to prevent such tragedies in our communities. When coupled with adult supervision, well-fitted life jackets are the best defense against drowning and we’re pleased to be a part of an effort that will make taking these steps easier for visitors to Buck Lake.

The wooden structure was installed in late April by its builder, Eagle Scout Nic O’Leary. Kitsap Safe Kids is providing life jackets in a wide range of sizes. A bright and informative sign, purchased with grant funds from Safe Kids USA, will provide users with simple directions for using the personal flotation devices. Our firefighters will check the kiosk regularly to ensure that it remains well stocked. The kiosk will be stocked from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Don’t forget that life jackets to purchase or borrow are also always available by appointment through our headquarters fire station (26642 Miller Bay Road, Kingston).

Kids’ Day at Fairgrounds

Join local fire departments for a free, fun-filled day for kids and families on June 7 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the show runs until 2:30 p.m. In addition to live fire demonstrations and vehicle extrications, the event will feature the Ride and Glide Stunt Team, over 45 booths with fire and life safety information, Sparky the Fire Dog and his buddies, and more.

Car seat check

This month’s car seat check takes place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at our headquarters fire station (26642 Miller Bay Road, Kingston).
