Think Before You Park — Some community members have asked us to remind you about the importance of maintaining space along driveways, parking areas and roadways so that our crews will have access in the event of an emergency. Every day, in neighborhoods around our district where the parking is scarce, people stash vehicles along the side of already-narrow roads and compromise our ability to get through when we need to. In front of commercial buildings, the curb is often painted red to signify that it’s a fire lane and a no-parking zone to ensure our crews can quickly access the building for a fire or medical emergency. Too often, these routes become blocked with parked vehicles. We thank you in advance for keeping the way clear so we can quickly get to the people who need us!
County-wide Helmet and Life Jacket Sale — NKF&R is joining with other organizations who are also dedicated to protecting kids from injury, and marking National Safe Kids Week (April 26-May 2) by participating in a county-wide helmet and life-jacket sale. On April 30 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at our Paul T. Nichol Headquarters Station (26642 Miller Bay Road near Kingston), come and gear up for summer fun by getting these important safety devices. The cost is just $7.00 for helmets, and $14.00 for life jackets. The wearer must be present for a custom fit. And, if you can’t make it that day, we fit helmets and life-jackets all year around by appointment. Call us at (360) 297-3619 or e-mail to
laboda@nkfr.org for more information.
2008 Annual Report — NKF&R’s 2008 Annual Report will be available on our website, at our fire stations and in the local public libraries in mid-April.
Car Seat Check — Stop by for our monthly car seat check on Saturday, April 11 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Paul T. Nichol Headquarters Station.
CPR Classes — We have several newly trained CPR instructors in our ranks and hope to resume our public CPR classes in May.
