POULSBO — The North Kitsap High School LEO Club continues to add to its achievements.

On Thursday, the club received the LEO Club Excellence Award for the 2010-11 school year from the Poulsbo Lions Club, on behalf of Lions Clubs International. The club was one of 48 clubs around the world to receive the award.

The award is given to those that “excel in community service, membership growth, communication and organizational management,” according to the Lions Clubs International website. Those clubs which earn the award receive a banner patch and the club president receives a Club Excellence Pin.

The club has about 20 members.

During the 2010-11 year, the North Kitsap LEO Club sponsored two blood drives, raised money through ASB contracts, hosted a LEO Club conference, which included other clubs from North Kitsap School District and other districts, and collected food for Fishline.

Stephen Nolet, the club’s adviser, also received an award for leadership excellence. Nolet has been the adviser since fall 2005, when the North Kitsap LEO Club earned its last Excellence Award — which was for the previous year under the guidance of Jim Stark.

North Kitsap junior Lydia Leach accepts the Excellence Award on behalf of the North Kitsap LEO Club Thursday afternoon.
