KINGSTON — A North Kitsap man recently won $220,000 playing the Washington’s Lottery Hit 5 game. He claimed his prize at the Federal Way regional office on Feb. 12.

He purchased the winning ticket at the Albertsons on Highway 104 in Kingston. The retailer will receive a $2,200 selling bonus, Jennifer Carroll of Washington’s Lottery reported.

The man’s identity was not disclosed.

The winner, who is retired, plans to visit his financial adviser and invest the money. He told Washington’s Lottery officials that the best part about the big win is the peace of mind it brings. “There’s comfort in knowing that there’s a cushion,” he said.

The man has been playing Washington’s Lottery for the past 30 years, usually Hit 5, Mega Millions, Powerball and Lotto. He has never won more than a $10 prize, making this his first big win.

It’s the second major winning ticket sold in North Kitsap in the last three months. In late November, a Poulsbo couple won $1 million with a Gold Rush Scratch ticket purchased at the Hilltop 76 on Highway 3.
