NK Christian Ministerial Association celebrates grads
The North Kitsap Christian Ministerial Association hosts its 2008 baccalaureate program at 2 p.m. June 8 at Bayside Community Church in Kingston. The program will be a time to honor graduating seniors. It will include keynote speakers Eugene Medina, retiring North Kitsap School District superintendent, and the Rev. Duncan Clark of St. Charles Anglican Parish. Music and graduating senior testimonials will be provided.
NKSD Festival of the Arts
The North Kitsap School District presents the sixth annual Festival of the Arts June 5 from 6-9 p.m. at Kingston High School in the commons. The evening boasts artworks by students from every school in the district as well as music, theatre and dance performances from students and community members. Several local artists display and demonstrate their works and processes, and representatives from many area art schools and art businesses participate with informational displays and arts career advice for students. Each year the festival gives an award for the advancement of arts education in Washington state. This year Rep. Christine Rolfes (D-Bainbridge) will be honored for her work on House Resolution 4704.

On Thursday from 4-10 p.m. at the Clear Water Casino in the Weaver Suite a reception will be held for newly commissioned Army 2nd Lt. Walter Vogel. Walter is a 2008 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a Poulsbo Post 245 member, a 2004 North Kitsap High School graduate, and a 2003 Evergreen Boys State alumni.
Silverwood Students Recognized as Johns Hopkins Scholars
Three Silverwood sixth-graders and one former Silverwood student were recognized as Johns Hopkins Scholars and presented with the “State Award with Highest Honors” at a ceremony held May 31 at the University of Puget Sound. The students are Keith Christen of Poulsbo, Christina Goessman of Poulsbo, Andrew Kain of Bremerton, and Olivia Mansker-Stoker of Poulsbo. They were selected based on test scores taken through Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Silverwood School is an independent school for students in first through sixth grades, located in Poulsbo.
