North Kitsap High School seniors Thomas Massey and Sophia Leonard have been named candidates in the 2010 Presidential Scholars Program. Massey is one of the top 20 scorers among males in Washington state on the SAT during the 2007-2009 time period. Leonard is one of the top 20 scorers among females in the state during the same period. Both students are among 3,000 candidates selected nationally for their performance. A panel of educators will select 500 semifinalists for the program in early April. Presidential scholars are selected based on academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in school and community activities.
