Mary Lou Slaughter will talk about “Northwest Basketry” on Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 pm. at the Kitsap County Historical Society Museum.
A descendant of Chief Sealth and nationally recognized basket weaver, Slaughter has inspired a renewed pride in the unique cultural traditions and art of the Duwamish. Her presentation will tell the story of how she decided to learn this craft as an adult. She will show and discuss the types of baskets and materials used in basket making.
A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by her lecture at 7 p.m. Admission is $20, and $10 for members. For reservations call 360-479-6226.
