Ella Van Buskirk
Ella Van Buskirk, 94, of Port Orchard died Jan. 20.
She was born June 12, 1917, in Hulbert, Okla.
She served in the Army Nurse Corps in the 1940s and later worked as a nurse in Seattle.
She married Allen Van Buskirk of Vashon Island in 1947. They lived in Port Orchard, where Allen ran the family business, Van’s Lumber.
She enjoyed boating, Western books and classic movies, and collecting books on Lincoln and the Civil War.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, and by four siblings.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Van Buskirk of Port Orchard and Linda (Aaron) Culley of Redmond, a granddaughter Brianne Culley of Seattle; two sisters, Lucille Smith of Gig Harbor and Era Schuman of Stanwood; two brothers, Duane Owens of Sherwood, Ore., and Arnold Owens of McMinnville, Ore.; and one granddaughter.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Feb. 4 at Rill’s Life Tribute Center, 1151 Mitchell Ave. in Port Orchard. Remembrances may be made to Seattle Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers. An online memorial is at www.rill.com.
