PORT GAMBLE — A truck allegedly stolen Thursday from Bremerton went for a long ride that when the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office apprehended the suspect at the intersection of State Routes 104 and Route 307 (Bond Road).

A 19-year-old transient male is in custody for possession of a stolen vehicle and hit and run, authorities said Thursday.

The truck, a 2011 Dodge Dakota, was stolen from the 1200 block of Fourth Street, said Bremerton Sgt. Kelly Meade. It was reported stolen to Bremerton police at 9:50 a.m.

About one hour later, at approximately 10:53 a.m., the truck allegedly struck another vehicle on Highway 3 in the Gorst area and left the scene, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson. The trooper that investigated the crash will go ahead with a hit and run charge, Hodgson said.

Continuing north, where he was spotted by Kitsap County Sheriff’s officers, said KCSO Deputy Scott Wilson. Officers followed him past the Hood Canal Bridge and down State Route 104, and he eventually came to a stop at the Bond Road intersection.

Sgt. Mead praised the performance of the dispatchers in getting several law enforcement agencies coordinated to help quickly locate and recover the stolen vehicle. The information had to be shared quickly between Bremerton police, Kitsap County Sheriff and Washington State Patrol.

“They did a great job making sure the information got around in a timely manner,” Mead said.
