POULSBO — Poulsbo’s former city hall stands vacant on a stretch of downtown’s Jensen Way.

But not for much longer. Soon, it won’t stand at all.

“We are in the planning phase of demolishing,’ Mayor Becky Erickson said Dec. 4.

The city had previously pursued plans to demolish the old city hall, but abandoned them for “a series of reasons,” according to the mayor.

But with the recent $250,000 sale of city property, known as the “museum property,” the city has reinitiated the effort. The sold property was a vacant lot on the east side of Jensen Way. Some of its proceeds helped pay for the Poulsbo Historical Society’s museum in the new city hall.

Another portion of the sale money will go toward demolishing the old city hall building.

“(The money) is sitting in the reserve right now and we can use part of that to pay for the demolition,” Erickson said.

The city will send out request for proposals for the job within six weeks. Ultimately, the city aims to sell the former city hall property and demolishing it will make it “more marketable,” Erickson said.

“A pad-ready property is worth more,” she said. “Additionally, the old building is in bad shape, and is not helpful as we try to retain an attractive downtown.”

The former city hall property is on the market for $1.25 million.
