Olympic teams, along with CK and Crosspoint girls head to regionals

Four local teams — three girls and one boys — are still in the hunt for a state playoff berth as the regional tournaments get underway this weekend.

Four local teams — three girls and one boys  — are still in the hunt for a state playoff berth as the regional tournaments get underway this weekend.

Regional playoff action kicks off Feb. 27 and Feb. 28 for the Central Kitsap, Olympic and Crosspoint Academy girls and Olympic boys.

The CK girls will face Lynnwood at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at Everett Community College in the Class 3A regionals in a loser-out game.

The winner will play the Prairie-Juanita winner on March 5 at the state tournament at the Tacoma Dome.

In 2A, the Olympic girls will play Mark Morris of Longview at 6 p.m. Feb. 27, at W.F. West High School in Chehalis. The winner will face Black Hills-Lynden winner on March 5 at the state tournament at the Yakima Valley Sun Dome.

The Olympic boys will face East Valley of Yakima at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Eisenhower High School in Yakima. The winner will play again March 6 against the Sammamish-Clarkston winner March 5 at the state tournament at the Yakima Valley Sun Dome.

The Crosspoint Academy girls will travel to Mount Tacoma High School Feb. 28 to play Shoreline Christian in a 10 a.m. in 1B play.

The winner will face the Lake Quinalt-Evergreen Lutheran winner on March 5 at the state tournament  at Spokane’s Veterans Memorial Arena.

The state championships are March 7.

3A WCD/SW playoffs

Central Kitsap 69, Lakewood 41: The Cougars went on a 25-5 run in the second period to help take a win over the Lancer in loser-out Class 3A West Central District/Southwest tournament game Feb. 21 at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

With the win, CK takes the No. 5 seed at his week’s regional tournament. Starr Rodenhurst led the Cougars with 18 points, Maddie White hit 17 and Taylor Krause had 15.

Central Kitsap 33, Kennedy 29: The Cougars beat Kennedy, 33-29, in a loser-out game at Washington High School in Parkland on Feb. 18.

2A WCD playoffs (girls)

White River 60, Olympic 45: The Trojans were never able to overcome a 34-13 halftime deficit as they fell to the Hornets Feb. 21 at Curtis High School. Olivia Williams led Olympic with 20 markers and Katie Campana scored 15. The Trojans will go as the district’s No. 4 seed to regionals.

Sammamish 49, Olympic 30: The Totems downed Olympic on Feb. 18 at Bellarmine Prep.

Olivia Williams led Olympic with 12 points.

2A WCD playoffs (boys)

Sammanish 66, Olympic 38: The state-ranked Totems overcame an early deficit and went on to take the No . 5 seed into regionals. Makaleb McInnis scored a team-high 14 points for the Trojans. Olympic got the No. 6 seed at this week’s regionals.

Olympic 59, Sequim 41: At Curtis High School, the Trojans took a tournament win over the Wolves on Feb. 19.

1B Tri-District playoffs

Crosspoint 48, Evergreen Lutheran 46: Cailyn Cattell scored the winning basket with less than a minute remaining as the Warriors clinched the Class 1B Tri-District championship Feb. 21, at Mount Vernon Christian.

Desere’s Doty led Crosspoint with 18 points, while Cattell finished with 10.

Crosspoint 59, Neah Bay 50: The Warriors advanced to the championship finals with a win.

Neah Bay had a 20-24 lead at halftime, before Crosspoint outscored their opponents, 35-20, in the second half.
