SEATTLE — One child involved in a rollover accident that shut down State Route 3 Friday afternoon was listed in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center Monday afternoon.

The child, a 10-year-old girl, was not wearing a seat belt when the 1972 Ford Econoline van lost its two back wheels as it was being driven on the freeway, according to a statement from the Washington State Patrol. She and a 9-year-old boy were airlifted to Harborview Friday afternoon.

The girl, who suffered a fractured hip, is the only one of five people involved in the one-car accident who remain hospitalized.

The 9-year-old boy, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered internal injuries and was treated at Harborview and released.

A 39-year-old man and 35-year-old woman were both taken to Harrison Medical Center, as was a 4-year-old boy. The man was not wearing seatbelt, while the woman and 4-year-old boy were restrained.

At about 12:30 p.m. Friday, the van was southbound on Highway 3 when the back tires fell off and the van rolled down an embankment.

The five passengers recently moved from Klamath Falls, Ore., to Poulsbo, according to Jody Matson, a spokeswoman with the Poulsbo Fire Department.

Two of the children were seated in a bench-type seat that came unbolted and was ejected, said Krista Hedstrom, spokeswoman for the Washington State Patrol. The third child may have been seated in the front seat between both parents.

The accident left a considerable amount of household items — clothing, etc. — scattered alongside the freeway.

The freeway was shut down for several hours as the debris was cleaned up.
