UPDATED | One dead in fire at Bremerton home

Firefighters confirmed one fatality at a residential structure fire in Bremerton.

Responders received the call around 11:15 on Tuesday to a mobile home park in the 4000 block of NW Country Lane. Scanner traffic indicated that a mobile home in the area was fully engulfed.

By 12:30 p.m., responders from the Bremerton Fire Department, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, and Naval Base Kitsap had the fire controlled and were working to douse any remaining hotspots in the home.

Angela Bargewell said she is a resident of the park and a neighbor to the house that was engulfed. She said neighbors first noticed the fire around 10:45 a.m. and began pounding on the outer wall of the home in an attempt to alert the occupant, described by Bargewell as a male in his 30s.

“I heard yelling coming from the street, from the neighbors and when I ran down there, the whole back of his house was already in flames,” Bargewell said. “We were beating on his bedroom walls trying to see if he was in there, if he was awake, if he needed help.”

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson confirmed that the body of a male occupant had been found in the back of the home, near an exit door.

Ileana LiMarzi, a public information officer for Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue, said details remained sparse as to possible causes of the fire. She said Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies and the fire marshal were still on scene, working to determine a cause for the fatal blaze.
