One driver was injured and other — a former County Commission candidate — was uninjured when their cars collided in the middle of Highway 305 in front of the Masi Shop & Shell Gas Station on the Suquamish reservation, today shortly before 9 a.m.

The injured driver was not identified. She was taken in an ambulance after complaining of head and neck pain, a Suquamish Police officer said. There were no passengers in either car. The crash occurred about 8:55 a.m., the officer said.

Suquamish Police, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue, Bainbridge Island Fire Department and State Patrol went to the scene.   

Laurie Serdahl, driving a rented Chevy Impala, said she was turning left from the Masi Shop onto westbound 305 when her car collided with an eastbound Pontiac SSE. “I didn’t see her,” Serdahl said.

A State Patrol officer on the scene said the cause of the crash had not been determined.

The airbags in the cars had deployed. The windshield on the passenger side of the Pontiac was shattered. Emergency personnel laid a ribbon of dirt on the road to contain leaking car fluids. Cars were directed around the crash site.

Serdahl is a representative for Kraft and Nabisco and was driving a rental car provided by her company. Her trunk was full of gum, she said. Anthony Orlandini, assistant manager of the Enterprise Rental Car company in Poulsbo, was on the scene about 10 minutes after the crash occurred, waiting with Serdahl until a replacement car arrived.

Serdahl, a former member of the state Inland Fish Policy Advisory Group, was one of five candidates who applied for appointment to the Kitsap County Commission position being vacated by Steve Bauer, who resigned. She was not a finalist.
