PORT ORCHARD — One person was injured in a three-car collision 11:11 p.m. Nov. 13 on State Route 16.
The crash happened after a maroon Mitsubishi traveling westbound on SR 16, driven by a 23-year-old Port Orchard man, struck a green Saturn traveling eastbound, driven by a 48-year-old Port Orchard man, head on. The third vehicle, a black Chevrolet driven by a 50-year-old Bremerton man, struck the Saturn from behind. The crash occurred just west of Elandan Gardens.
All three cars came to rest in one of the eastbound lanes, all of which were fully blocked for about 10 minutes. Two of the lanes subsequently were blocked for about an hour and 10 minutes.
The Saturn driver was the only one with reported injuries, but he was not transported to the hospital. No passengers were in any car.
All three cars were impounded, but only the Mitsubishi and Saturn were totaled. According to the report from Washington State Patrol, all three drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
The reported cause of the accident was the Mitsubishi traveling the wrong way. The driver of the Mitsubishi, Keith Wade, was charged with driving under the influence.
