Dear Gordon Families and Friends,
I am resigning my position as principal of Gordon Elementary, to focus on completing my doctoral dissertation in school improvement, effective June 30, 2014.
I have been truly honored to serve Gordon staff and families and to have had the opportunity to implement changes that have positively impacted students and staff.
Gordon now has a School Wide Progress Monitoring plan and teachers use triangulated data to color code students based on need for intervention and enrichment.
Academic Lab serves struggling students in both reading and math, and is now structured with a re-energized approach that includes literature circles, math games, problem solving, and skill work, and continual monitoring of student progress.
The Gordon School Improvement Leadership Team plans staff meetings and participates in the overall governance of the school, as detailed in our updated decision making model.
Our twice monthly Citizenship Assemblies celebrate and reinforce student leadership and positive behavior. There is an increased commitment to, and use of, small groups and differentiated instruction in order to meet the needs of all students, including our free/reduced sub-group.
Teachers have been provided binders with the teacher evaluation rubric and have the benefit of a year and a half of exposure to this new system.
The Options Program, for the first time, has a transparent enrollment process that is overseen by the Gordon office, with materials and information posted on the district website. There is a continually growing awareness of state laws and district policies that govern the program. The program is moving forward as evidenced by increasing student achievement.
I have been deeply honored to have served the staff, students, and families of Gordon Elementary School and look forward to becoming Dr. Rachel Osborn by next spring.
I graciously submit my resignation, to be effective June 30, 2014.
Rachel Osborn
