POULSBO — Change is in the wind for students and teachers at two area elementary schools. And the North Kitsap School district’s attendance boundary alteration is doing the blowing.
When it subsides at the start of the 2007-08 school year, Subase Bangor students who currently attend Vinland Elementary School in Poulsbo, will be reassigned to Pearson Elementary School.
An informational meeting regarding the shift for Bangor students from Vinland to Pearson will be held from 6-6:30 p.m. Friday in the Pearson library. At the conclusion of the meeting, a family fun bingo night will be offered from 6:30-8 p.m.
Pearson principal Patricia Moore said she is excited about the addition of Subase Bangor students to Pearson. Ironically, Subase Bangor students have attended Pearson in the past.
“Many years ago students at Bangor attended Pearson,” Moore said. “We’re excited about families from the area coming back to join us at our school again. We’re going to reach out to these families to help them with the transition taking place in the fall. We want to make it a smooth transition for everyone involved.”
With the newly reconfigured grade levels shifting sixth grade students to the middle school level in the fall, the addition of Bangor students will bolster enrollment numbers at one of the smallest schools in the NKSD, with 321 students.
“The addition of Subase Bangor students is going to help preserve our enrollment numbers,” she said. “We’re losing sixth grade to the middle school. But with the addition of Bangor students we’re projected to be close to the same enrollment numbers as we had this year.”
Pearson is located near Keyport at 15650 Central Valley Road in Poulsbo.
