KINGSTON — Pending verification by Guinness World Record, Antoine and Tania Issa broke the world record for the most money spent on a single pie at auction Aug. 21.

The Issa’s purchased Renae Chrisman’s pie for $5,000. The previous world record was $3,100 spent on a pie.

The auction was part of the Village Green Foundation’s annual Pie in the Park fundraiser, held at Village Green Park. The event raised slightly more than $40,000, according to Village Green member Bobbie Moore. Last year’s event raised about $17,000. The money is being raised to build a new community center. The goal is $8.2 million.

Moore said Chrisman can’t believe her pie sold for as much as it did.

“She’s in a state of shock,” Moore said.
