A Port Orchard police officer offering assistance to a stranded motorist resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle from Pierce County and the arrest of a 33-year-old Port Orchard man on Jan 9.

According to Police Commander Geoffery Marti, Ryan Mark Jensen was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of motor vehicle theft tools. He was taken to the Kitsap County Jail under a $50,000 bond, which also includes driving with a suspended license and failure to appear/contempt of court charges.

Marti said an officer was on patrol in the 1100 block of Southeast Lund Avenue about 4:43 a.m., when he discovered a 1992 Ford Bronco being pushed by a unidentified male. An officer approached the male who told the officer the vehicle ran out of gas.

He asked the officer if he could stay with the vehicle while he went to get gas.

The officer refused and offered to push the vehicle into a nearby parking lot. While the officer was pushing the vehicle, dispatch responded and notified the officer the vehicle was reported stolen a day earlier from the Park-and-Ride in Purdy.

Other officers arrived on the scene and Jensen was placed into custody.
