HANSVILLE — The Point No Point lighthouse couldn’t outshine the schooner Adventuress or Seattle Town Hall in an online competition for preservation funding. The North Kitsap landmark finished in third among 25 Puget Sound sites and structures competing for $1 million in grants.
Results of the Partners In Preservation competition were announced Thursday, with the Adventuress and Town Hall finishing in a near tie. Both landmarks will receive preservation grants of $125,000. The remainder of the grant money will be dispersed to the 23 other applicants. Individual grant amounts will be announced June 15.
“We’re in a really good position,” said Jeff Gales, excutive director of the U.S. Lighthouse Society, which requested $118,000 to renovate the Point No Point light tower.
An online vote was held between April 15 and May 12 to determine the top grant winner.
